Crispy Breaded Tofu Steaks (Chinese Style Cooking Recipe)

Welcome to Xiao’s Kitchen. My name is Xiao Wei and my goal is to make your cooking simple and exciting. Ever since my Mother showed me how to cook at an early age, I have always had a strong passion for cooking. My family still live in Inner Mongolia, in the northern part of China, where I visit each year and learn new Chinese recipes.

400g Tofu
2 Eggs
80g Breadcrumbs
4 Tbsp Cornflour
1 Tbsp Ground Cumin
1 Tbsp Ground White Pepper
Salt to Taste

1. Cut the tofu into 5cm long and ½cm thick pieces, place on a dish and sprinkle with pinch of salt
2. Break the eggs in a bowl, add half of the cumin, half the white pepper, a pinch of salt, then beat and mix well
3. Dip 1 piece of tofu in the cornflour and ensure an even coverage
4. Dip this into the egg and ensure an even coverage
5. Gently press and roll it in the breadcrumbs – ensure an even coverage
6. Place on a dish for later, repeat with the rest of the tofu pieces
7. Heat half a litre of oil in a wok over medium heat
8. Place the tofu in a wok one piece at a time, deep fry until golden on both sides – do this in batches
9. Remove tofu from oil and drain, sprinkle with the remaining cumin and pepper, serve hot
